The love and affection which thousands of my fans have showered on me is the best gift I received on my birthday,“ remarked Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay to DC at his birthday celebrations, which were marked by charity and goodwill gestures on Wednesday. When we reached the Shoba Kalyana Mandapam owned by the actor in the city, where about 100 fans of the actor were pledging their eyes on the occasion, the road was chocablock with traffic as hordes of Vijay fans had thronged the venue and were trying to get a glimpse of him despite the scorching sun. This year assumes a greater significance for the star as well as his Narpani Iyakkam members, since they had opposed the erstwhile DMK rule and worked hard for the victory of AIADMK in the recent State Assembly elections. His fans claim that Vijay has achieved a remarkable feat on the political front in this respect. To get back to the birthday. The day started with Vijay and his wife Sangeetha gifting gold rings to the babies born Wednesday at the Government Hospital for Women and Children at Egmore, where Vijay was born. About 50 gold rings were given to the newborns in the city and a total of 500 rings were given to babies throughout the state. Apart from this, the fans also organized various welfare programs, including blood donation camps, free notebook distribution and annadhanam. On the professional front, Vijay said he is looking forward to Aascar Films' Velayudham and Shankar's Nanban, with both in the wrap-up stage. Asked if his next film would be with Seeman or Murugadoss, the actor gave his inimitable smile and didn't say a word.
